Since 1996, Living Advantage, Inc., a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, has been providing services to foster youth. Since then, our mission is to provide housing, therapeutic treatment, educational support and independent living skills to at risk youth who are wards of the court in Orange and Los Angeles Counties.
After 11 years of operating successful 24 hour residential care facility group homes governed by the State of California, the group home facilities have been exchanged for a virtual home to direct more services utilizing electronic communication, social networking, media and an internet based agenda. The updated mission of Living Advantage is redefined to offer our foster youth a way of locating and electronically storing their vital life documents so they are identifiable and able to receive services and resources from the community on a consistent basis. The purpose of this highly secured web application is so that youth will have unlimited access to their personal information. We can better advocate for them as we assist in setting up a database for their personal history of information. They will be provided with access to continuous on line education and offered independent living skills and employment resources. The website will serve as a virtual online community for youth to voice their opinions, achievements, be engaged at our events and activities that help promote lifelong connections to supportive adults and peers for a higher rate of self sufficiency.
Bernice W. Clay, the founder of Living Advantage, Inc. w/family
In September, 1993 Living Advantage, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit organization. Bernice W. Clay, the founder, established the organization to further carry out her mission to help underprivileged youth in areas of special education, severe emotional and behavioral problems, and speech impediments. She received her Speech Pathology degree in 1976 and worked as an Aphasia/Special Education teacher for over 20 years with the Los Angeles Unified School District. The other founding members have diversified backgrounds. Together they opened the first (6) bed group home in 1996.
Unfortunately, 3 months after the opening of the Advantage Living Group Home, Mrs. Bernice Clay became ill and had multiple health challenges over the following three years. Operations continued with the commitment of the Board of Directors. Mrs. Clay passed away June 2, 1999 from her battle with cancer, but her legacy and dream still continues to shine on today.
Our Executive Director
Pamela R. Clay, Executive Director of Living Advantage, Inc., a non-profit organization, was born in Hollywood, CA and is proud to be a native southern Californian. She graduated from Palisades High School and became an honorary Sigma Gamma Rho at San Diego State University. Her college education led her to become an entrepreneur in real estate finance, investment and business management for over 30 years, establishing relationships with organizations throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. Utilizing her negotiating skills, she decided to explore philanthropic ways to share resources that provide services to support children in foster care and create a safe and stable environment for them.
Her vision has giving Living Advantage a niche in the foster care industry, by utilizing innovative technology, social networking and media to reduce the staggering statistics for these children. Their social network community is over 30,000 businesses and individuals who stay informed, support and provide opportunities to invest in the lives of foster children. She looks forward to being a part of the national solution in supporting her foster children.
