LIVING ADVANTAGE HISTORY
InSeptember, 1993 Living Advantage, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit organization. Bernice W. Clay, the founder, established the organization to further carry out her mission to help underprivileged youth in areas of special education, severe emotional and behavioral problems, and speech impediments. She received her Speech Pathology degree in 1976 and worked as an Aphasia/Special Education teacher for over 20 years with the
Los Angeles
Unified
School District. The other founding members have diversified backgrounds. Together they opened the first (6) bed group home in 1996.
Unfortunately, 3 months after the opening of the Advantage Living Group Home, Mrs. Bernice Clay Became ill and had multiple health challenges over the following three years. Operations continued with the commitment of the Board of Directors. Unfortunately Mrs. Clay passed away June 2, 1999 from her battle with cancer, but her legacy and dream still continues to shine on today.
After 12 years of running a successful Group Home, 24 hour residential care facility, governed by the State of California the new mission of Living Advantage, Inc. has been redefined to offer direct service to at risk youth in the way of an interactive secured web site. The purpose of this website community is so that youth will have unlimited access to their personal information. They will be able to set up a data base of their personal education and history. They will be provided with access to continuous on line education and offered independent living skills and employment resources. The website will serve as a virtual online community for youth to voice their opinions, achievements and receive rewards.
