ABOUT LIVING ADVANTAGE
Mission Statement
The mission of Living Advantage, Inc. is to provide a virtual online network for at risk and foster youth.  Living Advantage strives to create a safe and secure environment in which youth are able to store and maintain their vital life documents to ensure their continued education and their eventual successful independent living.  Additionally, Living Advantage provides an online social network of peer and community support.


Living Advantage, Inc. Accomplishments

1.     1996, Contractual agreement with the Orange County Department Social Services to receive Orange County foster youth.

 

2.     2000, LA REC Program Pilot Program Designed and Built, Web Site, www.LivingAdvantageInc.org

 

3.     2002, Contractual agreement with the Los Angeles Department Social Services to receive L.A. County foster youth. 

 

4.     2004, Certificate of Recognition from the California State  

      Assembly.

 

5.     2004, Buena Park Community Block Grant.

 

6.     2004, Successful Annual Skate for a Cause, Living Advantage, Inc. Fundraiser.

 

7.     2005, Worker’s Compensation Recognition Letter.

20.  February 27, 2009 we have impacted institutional and governmental policies by introducing Assembly Bill#1148, The VALE Program into legislation. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.

 

21.  March 21, 2009 Launched The VALE Interface Monthly Workshop @ The Urban League, Partnership

 

22.  April, 2009 Student Worker Training Site for Youth in Los Angeles City, AADAP and City of Los Angeles Summer Youth Employment Program.

 

23.  May 5, 2009 Los Angeles Business Journal Women Making a Difference Nominee 2009 

 

24.  May 8, 2009 The VALE Program an accredited on-line Educational Institution in process.

 

25.  June 1, 2009 Partnership with The Brotherhood Crusade to identify high risk youth and support strategies that combines mentoring, academic assistance. Career path vocational training and social skill development to high risk youth.

Board of Directors 2008
Eugenia Wilson: Started her career with Living Advantage in May of 1996. Eugenia has provided experience and knowledge with over twelve years of continuous service to the care of youth for the California Court system. She currently is the Facility Administrator, whose daily duties include acting as liaison between Public School District's, Department of Social Service, Licensing, Mental Health and the Courts. Other duties include managing and supervision of employees and residence, making sure that the facility is operating up to code: rules and regulations.

Professional Affiliations: Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Department of Social Services Group Home Standards Forum, California Community Care Licensing Advisory Board, California Coalition of Foster Care Stakeholders and California Alliance of Child and Family Services.

Dr. Paulette Gorsuch: A state licensed Marriage, Family Child Counselor, Social Worker and Teacher with experience in teaching inmate population Parenting skills, Substance Abuse Education, and Job Development. Ten years experience as Orange County Senior Social Worker supervising court ordered child abuse case plans and acted for two years as supervisor of shelter childcare staff. Assisted in the founding and creation of a community run-away Youth Shelter. Grant writer, Policy Maker, Program Recruiter, Staff Development, A Red Cross HIV/AIDS Community educator, Volunteer Coordinator, Program Consultant for Group Homes and Non-profit organizations.

Professional Affiliations: California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists, Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Prevention Network, American Association of Higher Education, National Association of Alcohol & Drug Counselors, American Correctional Association.

Barbara Lindsey: Nine years ago she founded the Black Business Expo. Recently sold it to one of the largest Health care providers, United Health Plan HMO/Watts Health Systems. She now serves as a consultant to the Expo. She has been an entrepreneur in the L.A.community for over thirty years. She has also been very successful in promoting; creating businesses and spectacular events. She can bring private sector monies to our non-profit organization.

Professional Affiliations: Public Service, Radio & TV Public Service Media, Member Links, Member T. V. Stations, The New LA Business Group, Family Savings Bank, and host of numerous organizations.

Curtis B. Harrison: Has own and operated a computer resource center. Major skills and talents are in managing the creation of feature and trailer film and video post process for the film, telecin mixing editing, DVD and Hi-Def process. Entrepreneur in the catering business.

Professional Affiliations: Has been on numerous Boards for youth causes. .
